Tonya Barrett
Tonya Barrett is a Master’s Intern studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University.
Tonya has a passion to see individuals thrive in wholeness and freedom and believes that God has a desire to see all His children walk out His purposes for their lives.
She is passionate about serving individuals, couples, teens, and families in finding deep healing and wholeness.
Tonya’s first degree is in Practical Nursing and Women’s Health from SUNY Brockport University in New York State. She has almost 30 years of experience as a Community Home Health Nurse. Throughout the years she has had the privilege to meet people from all walks of life and has been honored to assist in the emotional and physical healing of the individuals and families in her care. She enjoyed sitting with people and encouraging them in times of need as well as practically helping where she could, something that she believes transfers nicely into a career in counseling. As she has supported many patients over the years, she found a love for mental health and decided to transition into becoming a counselor. She has served as a youth leader, intercessor, greeter, and in women’s ministries in her local church over the years. She has volunteered in community outreaches such as Cooperative Christian Ministries, Lifeline Christian Misson, Samaritans Purse, and Love Week.
Tonya has additional training and certifications in Adult Mental Health and First Aid, Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy, and Psychological First Aid. She is in her final year of a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University and is excited to be with us at Rodgers Christian Counseling supporting clients.
In Tonya’s free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and four children. She also enjoys everything beach, taking long walks, traveling, cooking, and reading anything about psychology. She loves meditating and practicing mindfulness and teaching others about the benefits of practicing both. Tonya has lived in New York and Florida and moved to the Charlotte area seven years ago from California.
